ArcheAge Chronicles

ArcheAge Chronicles: World & Game Systems

ArcheAge Chronicles is an online action RPG by XLGAMES built on Unreal Engine 5. You are a seasoned explorer and member of a trading company in the “Age of Pioneers”, exploring Auroria, the “Land of Opportunity” – with dodge, parry and counter combat, your own house, trade and PvP in a shared world.

Story

Auroria was long a forgotten legend – now the continent has been rediscovered. According to the Steam page, ancient ruins, a catastrophic airship crash and a web of intrigue await.

Chronicles is tied to the original ArcheAge through its world, but according to XLGAMES it is explicitly “not ArcheAge 2”: neither sequel nor reboot, but untold tales of Auroria’s settlers. The classes carry the legacy of known figures such as Kyrios, Tahyang, Aranzeb and Shyagon.

Combat

Fights play out as action combat: you read enemy movements and decide when to dodge, parry and attack. Every class has two weapons with their own skills.

  • Jump, fall, roll, dash, block and parry; melee, ranged and magic
  • No default targeting, but a lock-on option
  • Ranged attacks can also be parried and reflected back at the attacker
  • SP as the skill resource; status gauges for Bleed, Burn, Shock and Freeze; stagger and counters

PvP

Players cannot attack each other on normal channels. On PvP channels everyone except your party and guild can attack you. PvP was first publicly playable in the Steam Next Fest demo.

  • Switch at a Nui Statue, with a cooldown
  • 10–15% bonus EXP from monsters on PvP channels
  • No rewards for player kills yet; rankings and trophies more likely after launch
  • Planned but explicitly “not a promise”: trade runs through PvP channels and guilds fighting over trade posts

Online world

Everyone plays in one shared, persistent world. Each zone is split into channels of about 100 players – a deliberate design choice, according to XLGAMES, which now calls the game an “open-world action MMORPG”.

  • The game assigns your channel; parties stay together and you can hop to a friend
  • Dungeons and some points of interest are instanced for you or your party

Exploration

Gliders and underwater exploration are confirmed. XLGAMES says it does without “glowing arrows” to objectives; there are secrets to find. A Selfie Mode with a free camera is there for screenshots.

Progression

Characters level up and find new weapons and gear. Every level-up grants 3 Stat Points for the six attributes; the Steam Next Fest demo still ended at level 40. Gear comes in six rarities from Common to Mythic, with random stats, Lunastones and Lunagems. Trait Points for the perk trees come from Raeven’s Coilstones and quests. This may still change during Early Access.
